STI weights and market caps since 2014

How the 30 Straits Times Index companies split the index, week by week since January 2014. Estimated STI weights follow the index's free-float rules; full market cap counts every share. Companies that joined or left the index count only while they were members.

Best-effort data, not financial advice. I built this from public sources, mainly Yahoo Finance and the SPDR STI ETF's published holdings, and estimated what they don't cover. It may contain errors or be out of date. Don't rely on it for investment decisions; use it at your own risk, and check official sources such as SGX and FTSE Russell before acting.

Who was in the index

One row per company that has been in the STI since 2014. Darker means a bigger STI weight; hatching marks a company whose market cap is estimated rather than priced. Current members come first, then past members by the date they left.

How this is built

Market cap is closing price × shares outstanding, converted to Singapore dollars for members quoted in US dollars. Prices and share counts come from Yahoo Finance. Membership follows every quarterly index review since 2014, so a company counts only while it is in the index.

The official STI weights use free-float market cap, which leaves out large blocks held by Temasek, parent companies and founders, and FTSE's exact figures are licensed. The estimated weight here sets a free-float factor for each company so that the weights match the holdings of the SPDR STI ETF, which tracks the index, on every day a holdings file is available: 30 days since 2014 so far, with one more each business day. Between those days each weight moves with the company's own price.

Six former members that have since delisted use weekly closes from 2015: CapitaLand, CapitaLand Commercial Trust, Global Logistic Properties, Jardine Strategic, Noble and Olam. For 2014, CapitaLand and Olam use month-end market caps from companiesmarketcap.com, and the other three are estimated from their official weights in January, February and September 2014. Singapore Press Holdings and CapitaMalls Asia have no price history available, so their values are estimated from their official weights (and, for SPH, its market cap when it left the index); they are marked as estimated. Keppel's full market cap before 2023 is understated, because Yahoo adjusts its older prices for the 2023 distribution of Sembcorp Marine shares; its estimated weight is not affected.

The STI dates to 31 August 1998 and continues the Straits Times Industrials Index started in 1966. It was relaunched with FTSE as a 30-stock index on 10 January 2008.
